Wadebridge Bowling Club (Cornwall)

Wadebridge Bowling Club was awarded the Club of the Year award at the Bowls England Awards |Night on the 22nd February 2025 and Bowls Cornwall congratulates them on their success.

Wadebridge Bowls Club has had a transformative year, marked by remarkable achievements driven by the club’s core values: welcoming, supportive, and inclusive. These principles have guided every initiative, fostering a vibrant, thriving community.

Membership surged, including a significant increase in female members, achieved through a creative two-day Taster Weekend promoted via social media and local outreach. New members were warmly integrated, playing in both league and friendly matches and even stepping into leadership roles, ensuring a robust future for the club.

The innovative Bowls Blitz competition, a fast-paced, informal Sunday evening event, attracted members and non-members alike. With no dress code, a casual atmosphere, and refreshments available, the event epitomized inclusivity and generated additional revenue. Its popularity has drawn interest from other clubs keen to replicate its success.

2024 was the club’s best season in recent times. The Men’s A and B Teams and the Ladies’ Team achieved league and tournament successes, often with contributions from new members. Off the green, the club’s bar, The Extra End, doubled its revenue under the leadership of an innovative Bar Steward, further solidifying the club as a social hub for players and the wider community.

Wadebridge continues to inspire future generations, hosting weekly sessions for local primary schools. Two alumni of this program now lead the club as Fixtures Secretary and A Team captain, exemplifying how early engagement can nurture lifelong commitment.

Building on this year’s achievements, Wadebridge Bowls Club plans to expand competitions, deepen community ties, and maintain its welcoming culture, ensuring the sport remains accessible, enjoyable, and inclusive for all.

Wadebridge Bowls Club truly embodies what it means to be “Fit for the Future.”

Well done to all members who participated in gaining this ward and may their success continue in future years.
