Congratulations to Roy Lane (Kensey Vale BC) on winning the Unsung Hero of the Year award.
A long standing fixture of Kensey Vale Bowls Club, Roy has been the Fixture Secretary for 49 years, set to complete his 50th year in the role in 2026. Roy has been a key part of the club for over half of its 99-year lifetime and has seen it grow from a club of three rinks to a club boasting six rinks and excellent facilities.
As well as his primary role, Roy has made sure to lend a hand in various other areas, helping to grow and develop the club he loves over the years. He has played a prominent role in helping youngsters discover and fall in love with the sport, he has assisted in organising many of the club competitions and has been a key member of the club’s management committees, overseeing the continued growth of Kensey Vale within the community.
2026 will be Roy’s 50th and final season as Fixtures Secretary. The legacy of excellence he has left will be a tough act to follow, and the job he has done over his many years in the position speaks to his love of the club, his proactive attitude and his dedication to growing the game of bowls.
It is an honour to be your President for 2026, and I am really looking forward to my season with you all. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the presidential team over the past two years and thank them and the Bowls Cornwall Officers for their support and guidance and I would also like to thank my club Imerys and Group 3 for their support.
I thank Peter Prynne for being a wonderful ambassador to the county as President and I wish him well.
As we sadly have no Junior Vice candidate my Senior Vice President Graham Irons and myself will do our best to support all clubs and players and I look forward to seeing as many games as possible.
Finally, I wish you all a safe, healthy, successful and happy bowling season for 2026
