During the course of the week there were matches against the Parque de Floresta, Vilamoura, Tavira and Valverde Clubs where we were warmly welcomed – nearly always in dazzling Algarvian sunshine.

The fixture with Parque de Floresta was played on a synthetic surface and resulted in a win for the host club.  The top rink for Bowls Cornwall was Jill Symons, Chris Boughton, Jacky Lambden and Andrew Batchelor (14-10).   The remaining matches were played on grass.  The Vilamoura game was narrowly lost with Bowls Cornwall’s top rink (20-5) being Derek Turner, Lyn Carnell, Ann Reece-Pinchin and Andrew Batchelor.

The fixtures against Tavira and Valverde resulted in wins for Bowls Cornwall, and top rink against Tavira was Fran Turner, Jenny MacDonald, Joe May and Max Richards (26-10).  The Valverde match was played over 2 days – ½ the team on Tuesday and ½ on Wednesday.  The top rinks were Sue Priestley, Enid May, Andrew Batchelor and Keith Payn (21-18) and Tim Wilcocks, Margaret Shillaber, Deryk Masefield and Ken Jasper (26-7) respectively.

The Tour was arranged through Personal Touch Holidays Ltd and the invaluable assistance of resort manager Frances Hills was available throughout.
